Casey Anthony Trial - A TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE!

I'm not the only one not happy that Casey Anthony's trial was a
travesty of justice.

The petition for Caylees Law now has 847,073 signatures signed online
(and had 1/4 million the first day of July 5th). The petition will
likely have around a million signatures by the end of the fourth day
(today, the 9th) following the verdict of not guilty for Casey
Anthony.

Four states have already enacted legislation to get a jumpstart on the
lengthy Federal process of going through the House and Senate to get
the law passed. No doubt others will follow suit.

This law needs to be enacted; this trial demonstrated that hiding the
disappearance and/or death of a child allows time for evidence to
deteriorate, and in the absence of this type of law, the parents are
not culpable for doing that.

Lawmakers in Florida, Oklahoma, New York and West Virginia have all
announced that they will propose versions of the law. This comes at
the same time that an online petition for a "Caylee's Law" went viral
on Change.org, which has collected over 300,000 signatures [NOW
847,073].

Oklahoma Rep. Paul Wesselhoft said that the petition, created by
Michelle Crowder of Durant, Okla., caught his eye and the eyes of his
constituents.

"Yesterday, I got a lot of emails from my constituents who are very
outraged by the trial and the verdict," Wesselhoft told ABCNews.com.

It doesn't matter how many millions of people sign your petition, it
doesn't make the trial a travesty of justice. The prosecutors should
have charged misdemeanor crimes. They didn't know because they didn't
have the benefit of hindsight. Hopefully they will learn from this
and improve.

Criminals ignore the law.

Actually you don't need a new law. It's just going to tack on a bit
more time when someone does get caught with murder. But the price is
that the families of legitimate accident victims now have to go though
an extra step of filling out paperwork for the occasion or else they
are felons. If one forgets to fill out the form for the accidental
death of a child does that mean they should have the rest of their
children taken away?
